Just announced by the National Main Street Center, Thurmont’s Main Street joins the accredited 2016 Main Street America Program!
This national organization recognizes cities and towns of different sizes that successfully execute programs dedicated to excellent economic growth to the town’s central Main Street community. To be included in this prestigious cultivation of thriving downtown Main Street communities, Thurmont exudes the qualifications that make it worthy of such accreditation to the National Main Street America Program! These qualifications include fostering public-private partnerships, maintaining public outreach, operating on a fiscally secure budget, preserving historic buildings and sustaining revitalization efforts. Since it opened at 11 Water St. in 2015, Thurmont Main Street has served as the town’s focal point, housing the visitor center, an art gallery, a public meeting space and headquarters for holiday events. The Thurmont Farmers Market is one of the many revitalization efforts that have contributed to Thurmont’s Main Street accreditation. Other efforts include new streetlights, benches, sidewalks, and bicycle accommodations. Visit Thurmont and their thriving Main Street community today to see that this small town has big happenings all year long! *To remain accredited, Thurmont Main Street must abide by the Maryland Main Street guidelines administered through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, according to Thurmont Main Street manager Vickie Grinder.* – FNP 7/6/2016 |
